Nelson Mandela Bay cares.
That’s the early verdict of a call to the metro to get behind Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in helping its students to complete their academic year.
After a four-week shutdown, two weeks of stop-start disruptions across some of its six campuses, along with the disappointing court-mandated mediation outcome, the University has launched its academic completion plan.
The huge logistical requirements needed to support this plan has seen a huge outpouring of support from the metro – and far beyond – for its #Support4NMMU campaign.
One American woman, for example, has offered financial support such is her commitment towards ensuring that the University’s 27 000 students are able to complete their studies for 2016.
Within the metro there have been offers of home stays, a hot meal and transport to exams for those students whose accommodation ends at the end of November, as exams are likely to stretch into early December for some.
Venues, data, airtime, paper, photostating, food and toiletries have all be offered, along with offers by individuals to provide counselling and transport in emergencies.
Others have offered their organisational skills, their availability for typing, administrative work and for producing videos.
The University is extremely appreciative of the dozens of offers that have come in so far.
If you would like to become part of the volunteer #Support4NMMU solution, please go to http://fmf.nmmu.ac.za and fill in the volunteer online form. The University will follow up with your offer.
