THE decline of women participation in sport and the reasons for certain sports getting more support than others are among the issues for discussion at the first sport transformation indaba at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) today (Monday, 25 July).
The indaba hosted by Madibaz Sport aims to discuss an equal opportunity for all through sport.
Other issues include:
Madibaz Sport Director Yoliswa Lumka said the idea was to have an honest discussion about sport at NMMU and to get feedback from the students and other stakeholders. And thereafter to develop a sports charter and a strategic plan for going forward.
She also said that stakeholders will also be informed about what NMMU is busy with and where the university is with transformation in sport. The event is also important for organisations and the people who affect sport in the Eastern Cape.
“It is crucial that the views of students are incorporated in everything that we do as a university,” she said.
The indaba is also to educate other institutions of higher education on how to manage their sport codes and showcase statistically how much NMMU is committed to transformation, Yoliswa said.
