The University management met yesterday afternoon with student leaders to discuss the pressing funding challenges faced by students at South African universities, amongst others. The meeting agreed that given the current discussions and engagements taking place nationally on this issue at different campuses and with various stakeholders, including the Minister of Higher Education and Training, it has become necessary to hold an open meeting and dialogue with NMMU students.
Our Vice-Chancellor has confirmed that this dialogue with NMMU students will take place tomorrow (Thursday, 22 October 2015) at 13h00 and will be held at the Madibaz Stadium on the South Campus.
In the interim, the University Management wishes to make it known that the protest action taking place today is being monitored and that the University will take the necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of students, staff and property.
Lastly, students and staff should note that teaching and learning, and the rest of the university business, will resume tomorrow morning as per usual.
