Reasons to be Proud - #R2bP: Madibaz swimmer and BTech Construction Management student, Alaric Basson set the National Olympic Swimming Trials on fire last week as he swam his way to gold in three events in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth).

He broke the provincial record in the 100m breaststroke with his personal best time of 1.00.84. His other two gold medals were for the 50m breaststroke in 28.09sec and the 200m breaststroke in 2.13.44.

The 25 year old from Kariega (formerly Uitenhage) hopes to crack the nod for final selection to attend the Tokyo Olympics to be held in Japan later this year.

The trials were held at Newton Park swimming pool.
