for tomorrow

NMMU News

22/08/2016

NMMU is aware of the various calls to action by student groupings at the University, and is actively monitoring and engaging with those concerned.

SASCO’s Facebook page is calling students to join a national strike to shut down all universities on Wednesday, 24 August https://www.facebook.com/nmmusasco/posts/1801111796770871, while a voice note making the rounds is suggesting a different date.

The SRC has also called all students to a mass meeting with management in the Kraal tomorrow (Tuesday) to seek solutions to the many challenges NMMU and the higher education sector in general is facing in the wake of the #FeesMustFall movement and the present uncertainty regarding a fee increase for 2017 https://www.facebook.com/NMMUSRC/

This mass meeting has been approved, especially in the spirit of co-creation – that of finding shared solutions for our University going forward.

Please know that negotiations with the various student groups is ongoing to avert the proposed strike action and find alternative platforms for engagement.

This communication is not meant to alarm you, but to provide you with the facts presently available to us. We will endeavour to keep you updated via all our communication platforms, but especially the NMMU news website - http://news.nmmu.ac.za/
