Thirty prospective engineers from 14 schools will get the opportunity to sharpen their pencils at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and the Automotive Industry Development Centre’s annual Automotive Experiential Career Development Programme (AECDP) winter school at the university.

NMMU hosts the event in collaboration with the programme creator, AIDC and sponsor Continental Tyre to grade 12 learners.

The weeklong winter school at NMMU, involves the mentoring and guidance of the learners. During the programme they will be exposed to numerous engineering principles, including AutoCAD, computer technology and site visits Volkswagen South Africa as well as Coca-Cola SABCO.

Big treats this year will be the Industrial Lego Game, the Engineering interactive Tour and the learning style and study skills workshop.

"It has been a tremendous pleasure to arrange this winter school,’’ says Liesl Stowman, project coordinator of the winter school.   The mentorship of these learners does not end here they will receive assistance where needed.

The programme kicks off on Sunday, 12 July 2015.
